collection kitchen utensils 'kook' by sharon geschiere from netherlands
designer's own words:
In July 2005, I graduated at the Arnhem Academy of Arts and Design. The products which I've made for this graduation are cooking utensils. In the first place, I like good food, and I think it is important..... In the second place, I like to cook, and to prepare dinner for friends or family. Finally, cooking utensils are usually handy-sized, and I like to make products of this size. Designing cooking utensils gave me the opportunity to design a lot of different products.
I think the common, boring, but professional look of these utensils, which look a lot like each other, demand an alternative solution. That's why I gave myself the assignment to design this product-group more personal and characteristic.
With my cooking utensils, I want to evoke a smile on everybody's face, as if little creatures that live on your kitchen sink, in stead of ordinary tools, which end up anonymously in you kitchen unit. I think it's important to have direct contact with the food you prepare, and the utensils you use for it.
In the look of my products, I tried to show the way how you have to use the utensils, and the function of it. The image explicitly shows the function. They are products with a dynamic reproduction of the function. The form is very important, and aimed at clarity.
The silhouettes of my products have the power of an icon. The collection is made in black and white, which accentuates the form. That's why it became products which demand their own place.
Every product you see here, was made by hand, and they are all prototypes. I'm looking for a producer, who can help me with developing this collection, so that it will be possible to sell my products for a reasonable price in a medium-sized edition.
