designer's own words:
COCOON is an ashes-in-glass memorial that honors the memories of our loved ones. Through survey, there is an increasing trend of people choosing scattering ashes as a funeral rite. Memorial as a priceless reminder of the impact a loved one had on your life will be popular in the future.
COCOON was inspired by the discarded shells of insects.
“In summer, we can found that some trunks of tree are covered with discarded shells of certain insects. The inside has left, leaving the outer form which looks like an x-ray, producing the luminous effect. It’s interesting that we can hear a chorus of sound coming from the dark leaves above. It is the sound of the insects hidden in the tree in their new metaphysical form. We can hear the sound but we cannot see it. In a way, the sound we hear is a soul sound.”
The shape of COCOON likes an abandoned cocoon. It symbolizes a rebirth of the dead.
COCOON is produced with layers of clear molten glass and part of the dead’s ashes. Each COCOON has its unique pattern of ashes.
People can hang the COCOON of their loved ones on a tree in their yard or even in a forest cemetery.
