designer's own words:

Imagine a world without colour. That is how a percentage of the world’s population perceives everyday life. The wonders and expression of colour has been lost on them. Colour blindness affects approximately 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women in the world. There is no cure for colour blindness, with only little mass market products geared towards correcting the deficiency.

The concept of Chromalens is based on this concept of merging colour with not only sight, but also with the thought of sound. You have to ask yourself a question; “What does colour sound like?” This revolutionary concept allows people who are colour blind to envision colours that they could not before. Each form of colour blindness varies to a certain degree, with the disabled person unable to perceive a specific colour. Chromalens would enhance those specific colours & magnify their strength, therefore allowing the user to see the colour when he/she could not before. This would in turn give them something similar to normal vision, an important aspect for working designers who are colour blind as well which was what our project was based on.

Together with the contact lens, the whole concept includes an app that pairs with a Bluetooth headset. The colours are converted to sound which aids the users with an extreme case of colour blindness. The sound can be personalized, with each instrument soundbite or tone representing a tint & shade of the colour. This would help people who are colour blind or even people who are totally blind to experience colour like never before.

Materials (A rough guide)
-Contact Lens: Our idea for the contact lens have been supported by various research of existing ideas for a "Smart Contact Lens". The materials needed for the lens would involve malleable yet non-toxic metals for the sensors, batteries & components of the contact lens. This would also involve a multi-pixel display for the area of the retina.

-Bluetooth Headset: Stainless steel, LEDs, soft padding for the earpiece
