designer's own words:
christmas tree is one of the symbols of christmas, whilst a swing reminds of happiness not only in childhood but also romance between couples. fusing both elements highlights the essence of christmas in japan.
the design produces a visually interesting and interactive object, where users not only perceive the abstracted version of christmas tree but also able to play with the swing. the simple triangular form resembles a christmas tree, together with the cladding of perforated panels with snow flakes pattern to highlight the wintery context of Osaka during christmas.
the lighting focuses on the user to enhance swinging experience through light and shadow of movement. from externally, the swinging movement is perceived through the perforated sheets, resulting a dynamic façade. there is opportunity to have changing colour of light to add another layer of interest to the design.
as shown in the diagram, the design employs powder coated white steel frame with perforated panel as enclosure to the sides. the swing is attached securely via rods to the top part of the triangular framework. base of the swing is made of soft fall to ensure safety of user. the design is suitable for different types of users including children and adults.
