designer's own words:

features: a new simple, patentable cut within the stalk so that a mere push will twist the door handle open. this is required for the many times one reaches the door with the hands full and cannot open it easily. with this design one just has to push the disc on the stem of the handle with even your hip, it will cause the handle to twist downwards automatically to open the door. the translucent part is a lightly luminiscent material which glows in the dark just enough to let you see where the door is. its also good for old people to lean holding the handle and not worry about hand slipping off easily because of the ergonomics of the grip. the design is bulbous at the outside so that it doesnt catch and tear your loose clothes easily which many of the current designs do. the green translucent part can be swapped to fix other similar shapes or even sleeker shapes on the same framework. this enables easier matching of door handles when one changes the interior decor.
