ce n'est pas une maison (this is not a house) by josh owen from usa
designer's own words:
I do not believe that a cart with the ability to act also as a shelter is the solution to the homeless problem. It could however act as a small, healing gesture in the long road to a cure. I have chosen to employ this archetype equally as functional structure and political statement. "This is not a house" makes a kind of symbolic, universal plea so that the problem of homelessness is advertised. At the same moment this concept adds some simple improvements which make the routine of the homeless individual more humane. My solution elevates the sleeping person up off of the cold ground. It provides a simple, tent-like tarp cover and some walls for resistance to the wind and elements. The title i have chosen is tongue-in-cheek for a reason. It makes reference to the iconic painting "Ce n'est pas une pipe" by the surrealist painter Rene Magritte. It must be known that my design is not a solution - it is a well-designed band-aid with a message.
