Bus Soltation by soonkyu jang from korea
designer's own words:
Our design concept (Eco-friendly design) was born to follow Green Design trend supported by a nation recently. Small curiosities such as ‘why is roof of bus stations structures made of glass?’, ‘why are we wasting electricity on billboards and monitors installed around bus stations?’, and ‘why can’t we easily find origin and destination even with a map of a bus route?’ made us be in agony and find a solution for it.
Design solution
The top part of the roof will be manufactured as a solar panel which absorbs solar energy. Then the energy accumulated in solar charger over from morning to evening will supply electric power to touch-screen monitors which would be placed on the surface of a glass wall. A weather forecast will be broadcasted by periods through the touch-screen part.
The touch screen board also displays pop-up windows regarding overall information of your destination. You don’t need to worry about ‘what buses do I need to take’, or ‘which bus route do I need to transfer to?’ anymore from this. The top right side of the screen will show information of buses coming to the station where you’re currently standing, and the information will contain arriving bus numbers and arriving time of them in arriving time order.
The bottom part of the screen takes a role to exhibit a map of a bus route which will be changed to other bus routes in every 10 seconds, and you can move the map window with a button placed next to it. The current station is displayed with the color ‘blue’ in the map of bus route, and an interval between a bus which have already passed by the station and a bus next arriving is displayed with the color ‘green’. You can easily check if there’s no more bus arriving next in that route. Finally, if you click your destination, it and the way to go there appears to be the color ‘red’.
