boro ivory jacket by padmaja from india
designer's own words:
The boro ivory jacket is an outcome and part of my ongoing project/collection of clothes ‘slow.useless’. Tiny scraps of hand woven pin tucked cotton have been collected from the factory floor, assorted, ironed out and laid artistically through hand stitches and thereafter sewn by the machine to create this stunning, unusual, organic texture that cannot ever be duplicated to the exact. The rich texture has been complemented with tulip sleeves in plain ivory cotton. Through this ongoing project of employing ‘slow’ processes and ‘useless’ material i have been able to successfully reuse 95% of my factory wastes to create artistic garments that are luxurious, meaningful, long lasting, sustainable and timeless.
