bone ash bricks for community building by amanda brewster from uk
designer's own words:
Allowing us to make a positive contribution to our community after our death, the cremation process becomes an integral part of calcium silicate brick production. Operating on a non-profit basis, the cremation ovens have a shared use, generating the steam used for the hydraulic brick mould press and the brick curing autoclaves. The cremated remains, presented as bone ash, are incorporated into the brick compound in batches. The low energy bricks are sold for community and civic building projects in the local area. The family can elect to receive an engraved brick to be incorporated in a private memorial or inserted into an existing structure. Cremation costs can be reduced or removed by the brick production, offering further benefit to the local community.
