blooming lamp by daniel maia from brazil
designer's own words:
many designers such as joe colombo(70s) and tokujin yoshioka (most recently) used acrylic´s property of transmiting ligth as fiber optics. Like acrylic, all transparent materials including glass, water, plastics and of course crystal, have this same property.
my project is to use crystal as fiber optics to create a lamp. swarovski is the perfect company to explore this idea.
the lamp has a blooming flower shape, that can be used as a table or a pendant lamp, depending only by the base. the body is always the same. the base is made of non faceted black diamond crystal. the body is made of clear crystal. the top part is faceted, and the rest of the body non faceted just like the base.
it uses a 35W dicroic lamp wich stays inside the black base.
ligth will travel through the body reflecting on its walls and will appear at the top of the lamp making the faceted part sparkle.
