the black hole is a conventional door handle design in many ways, but puts an emphasis on subtle styling details which give it an extremely friendly and approachable feel. A pure aesthetics study, I felt that having studied the vast array of door handles designed over the years, it is apparent that every possible shape lever has been tried and tested, so I instead wanted to focus on the often neglected rose area of the door handle in order to add interest. The lever starts out with a square profile for comfort and direction, but this is quickly squashed and distorted as the lever is pulled in by the black hole rose. The handle could be cast out of the usual door handle materials, but the rose lends itself to being personalised by the user with accent colours and soft plastic finishes.
