backpack of life

designer's own words:

The simplicity of nature motivates meditation and tranquility; unfortunately, since we are living in a world of fast images and audio and visual noise we are losing these two abilities.

The proposal of the backpack that resembles a sack shows products (potato, carrot, lemon, etc) just harvested, that is in their first stage of life. When we see a peasant carrying a sack full of fruits just collected that are natural, tender, healthy, strong and free of human alterations we immediately start thinking about how simple and peaceful life is in its first stage. This is the same sensation we want to transmit with the backpack imprinted with potatoes, carrots and lemons.

Many times men and women intervene in the natural process of the development of life; specifically in the case of conventional agriculture he or she intervenes using chemicals and synthetic fertilizers to accelerate the growing process, but far from doing a good, he or she destroys the soil and the micro flora and micro fauna that live in it.

For us, it is important to respect the natural process of the cultivation and what it entails (fertile soil and rivers free of contamination). We are using organic cotton that is cultivated respecting the ecosystem and the health of the peasants and consumers without using chemicals employed in conventional agriculture. Through using organic cotton we want to advocate taking care of the environment.

The weight we carry in our shoulders with the backpack represents the difficult mission of making the world reflect and the importance of transmitting the idea of not altering the ecosystem, and not damaging the environment. We know that this is not an easy task, but it is important to start with something, our contribution with this proposal would be the diffusion of our thinking.

Everything we do influences others. As Diana Riesco reflects: “if we could visualize our own influences in other things and people, how would they look? Our existence, the existence of the other living beings and objects affect the world in different ways in an infinite reaction chain. Our own influences in the world could never be measured or perceived completely by or own eyes.”

We are certain that with this proposal we are contributing to changing ways of thinking, which is why this project is so important for us. We put the weight of the backpack in our back by making other people reflect on their acting and the repercussion it has in the world.
