The Axiom Table series is the continuing exploration of the notion of using ‘Text/ Language’ as both structure and decoration. Written, verbalized and of any form, language is a structure for which our lives are built upon or communicated through. Language is the subliminal ornamentation that changes our lives.
The idea is to create tables, using language that lends itself to have great importance not only to us as a collective but as individuals. Individuals who all have they’re own wishes and desire to create or obtain objects that are important to them. The Axiom tables are to be manufactured with the client/ customer in mind. So they can have a hand in the creation of the object. There will be either a list of pre-determined quotes and phrases (based on market research) or the option of creating a custom piece by communicating with the designer/ manufacture themselves.
The manufacturing process is CNC Hot Wire cut EPS (Expanded Polystyrene); this process allows the possibility of mass production and customization. The EPS can be purchased in a variety of sized blocks from predetermined manufacturer sizes to customized requirements. Once the table(s) is cut they are then coated with a urethane plastic rendering the object structurally sound and durable. The urethane coating has the possibility of being tinted to a variety of colors or the perfect base for a custom color palette.
The Axiom series of tables and house wares is the execution of creating objects that not only have a functional purpose but go to the next step, and offers the customer something that will remind and inspire the creative forces that resides in all of us to pursue that which lies just beyond our grasp.
