Armona by asia samimi from italy
designer's own words:
armona is a door handle made of two materials, brass and leather. leather is a traditional material
most used in producing furniture, shoes and bags. it comes from the nature and it gives a warm
sense to people while touching it. comparing to any kind of metal it has less heat conduction so
it doesn't get so cold or so warm in dierent temperatures. therefore it can be a suitable cover for
objects which are grabbed by hand.
another reason why I chose leather is that it’s texture prevent hand or other parts of arm from
slipping over the door handle; sometimes people use an elbow to open a door when there hands
are full.
for providing the leather to make armona there is no need to produce the leather required, but
the company can simply use the waste of factories which need to provide leather in a large scale,
such as furniture factories or shoes and bags factories. this way the valuable leather can be
reused in production cycle.
leather in italy has a high value of use. as the company Colombo is italian, this use of leather in
their products can help to represent the companies identity.
the general form of Armona has an empty part which normally is produced in a full fill shape. this
will obviously reduce the use of the material and the products’ weight. the less the material is
used the more it helps the sustainability.
I chose the brass for Armona mainly because it’s been chosen as the main material for producing
door handles by Colombo company.
