designer's own words:

Arc 01 is an outdoor lighting system designed for use at public events. It is a free standing system consisting of a series of 180 degree tubular arcs filled with LEDs which are linked together via a cylindrical base unit.

Installation is simple. Each arc is assembled from 10, 18 degree sections which slot into each other not unlike tent poles. Each of these sections has a length of 125cm making handling and transportation simple. Once assembled the arc has an overall height of 4 metres. Each end of the assembled arc is then inserted into one of the locating sockets in the base unit. Each base unit can be used as a power source by connecting it to mains electricity via a power cable, and/or as an electrical link between two arcs. In this way only 1 base need be connected to mains electricity as the complete system forms a circuit. In each base unit there are 4 power outets for the powering of electrical devices needed for the event, allowing ARC01 to be used as an elegant power distribution network.

The arc casing is made from 2 main components. The bottom half of the arc is of a milky translucent polymer to allow light to radiate towards the ground. The top half is of an opaque polymer with a reflective surface on the inside. This blocks light from radiating outward towards the sky.
