apple planet by Wendy Shi from australia
designer's own words:
The Hirosaki Apple Park has always been a popular attraction amongst both Japanese and international tourists. Families and couples retreat to the park from the hustle and bustle of urbanised cities to be surrounded by 3 million apple trees, as if they have arrived at the land of apples.
The project takes of the idea of "land of apples" in kind of a literal sense but in this case, it is shaped like a planet with a ring system. The apple draws on the reminiscent memories of childhood where apples are cut up into the shape of a spiral to make apples fun and exciting to eat. Surrounded by the sweet aroma of all the apples, one is able to be immersed in the sweet memories of childhood.
The apple rotates and tilts as the base is attached to a pivot joint on the ground. The inside of the apple is hollow and can be accessed through the lid at the top of the apple. The appearance of the apple mimics the material quality similar to children's playground equipment. The outside of the apple is glossed, making it glow under the sun.
