designer's own words:
the body of this watch is assembled from thin layers of stainless with a consistent outer diameter and an inner diameter cut to interact with the corresponding hour, minute or second hand. etchings on each individual layer represent units so that when assembled the whole form presents the complete time. the color is achieved through physical vapor deposition (pvd.) pvd processes accumulate thickness over time, furthering the inherent relationship between this formal solution and its subject - time. the band, a fine stainless mesh, is an integral part of the layered form rather than being a secondary piece.
Rather than introduce foreign geonetry to establish an icon, the time tested circle form is refreshed with a new approach.
The body of the watch is built of layers of stainless, each layer treated to a subtly different color.
Each layer achieves its color through Physical Vapor Depoisition. This time based process accumulates more color with longer exposure.
Each layer is laser etched with different units and are sized to interact with the corresponding hands.
Layering creates a distinct icon.
The same gradiated coating process applied to layers can achieve many different effects, create an icon with versatility.
