A GIFT FROM THE PAST by C.SANDNER from japan
designer's own words:
It is a casual and fuctional outfit inspiring by the Kimono's art of celebrating season and nature.
But contradictory to the traditional Kimono, this design is meant to be worn in everyday life.
I used high quality grey wool mixed with kids kimono fabric sourced in Tokyo's flee markets.
I added a reflective treatement on the back pack to make it wearable in night time too, useful for bike riders.
The work on the Jumper is hand woork: felted wool, wool embroideries remining the imprtance of mancraftship, and spray painting refering to walls in the cities.
It evoques, childhood and rebirth.
Behind my design there is the idea of establishing a new relation between Japaneese craftsmen and the new generations of buyers.
I want to pay tribute to Japaneese Kimono while raising awerness of young buyers.
Make them wonder who made their clothes and how, in order to save precious traditional
craftsmen's skills.
And while keeping the traditions of Kimono making, the craftsmen could also diversify their production and propose some products
adapted to younger generations' needs.
