The 45 Degree Toss by YONG HONG XIE from taiwan
designer's own words:
Afternoon thunderstorms are common during the summer in Taiwan. They often lead to sudden water surges at the upstream of rivers in mountainous areas, resulting in the lose of many lives. Still, no dedicated rescue equipment has yet to be developed for such scenarios. This led us to improve on the design of current water rescue throw bags to feature a kickboard-like grip area, making them easier to hold on to. We also designed a rope unwinding device with a unique rope decelerating mechanism making it possible to release a rope at a speed that matches that of a river’s flow, increasing the safety of rescue personnel.
