1/3 2/3

1/3 2/3 by alexandros stasinopoulos from greece

designer's own words:

the usual movement of a lever is a rotational one. 1/3-2/3 suggests a different movement; a vertical one. the overall system follows a uni-body, clean design, and by breaking/separating this volume and by sliding the one part vertically down, the door opens.
with this design is achieved a) a novel, different gesture of opening a door b) an easier way for older people (suffering from arthritis maybe) or disabled (temporarily or permanently) to open the door as there is no need to twist joints but only with a slight force and gravity the door can open. the big, curved surface of the “handle” also facilitates an easier use.
this design, takes advantage of the existing mechanisms and it only adds (as indicated ) some few, low-tech parts to achieve the suggested move.
