designer's own words:
“We're in a giant car heading toward a brick wall and everyone's arguing over where they're going to sit...”
Its hotter than ever!.. The arctic ice caps are melting….heat waves are more lethal….eco systems are changing….Who and what are we to believe? Where to begin? Read a momentous number of the 62,168 books on climate change listed on Amazon.com, and …do we even realize Lohachara, a part of Sundarban delta near the state of west Bengal once a home to 10,000 Indians has been washed from the face of the earth with the increase in sea level. But all this does not ring any bell?? Does it? I hope before it’s not late…
My thought behind designing this chair was to juxtapose perceived realism as we like to see it from our rose tinted glasses and real that we push behind our chair or under the gilded carpet. Behind the back of my chair is the reality of the shrinking world with our resources getting extinct, changing our verdant world into a punctured dead planet and leading us to the ultimate doom.
Climate change is a stark reality and represents one of the greatest environmental, social and economic threats facing the planet, and I feel as a designer it is our responsibility to bring these issues of international relevance across the society.
