Kint x GUSHKA Unveil Limited Edition of collectible Armchairs

Ukrainian furniture brand kint and wool manufacturer GUSHKA have introduced their first collaborative project—a limited series of armchairs named puffa m4 Stranded and puffa m4 Brushed. Launched in Kyiv during DVRZ Design Days, the collection was featured in the Panoptikum gallery’s functional art section, curated by Belgian gallery owner Jean-François Declercq.

The collaboration merges modern design with traditional Ukrainian craftsmanship, reflecting the concept of ‘modernity that nurtures Ukrainian traditions.’ This partnership resulted in a series of armchairs that highlight both brands’ strengths. ‘We love seeing how contemporary design and new technologies coexist with traditional techniques, approaches, and crafts. This project emerged from co-creating our two worlds, in which we continue the life of tradition, find new forms for it, and give it space to flourish,’ says Daryna Lukanyuk, co-founder of GUSHKA. The centerpiece of the project is the Puffa M4 armchair, part of the bestselling Puffa system by Kint, designed by Ukrainian designer Rostyslav Sorokovyi, founder of the Lviv-based design studio MUDU. ‘Puffa combined with GUSHKA is a reinterpretation of a commercial serial product into something more collectible — unique and limited. It’s about the intersection of traditional weaving techniques and contemporary minimalist design,’ explains Rostyslav Sorokovyi.

Ukrainian designer Rostyslav Sorokovyi reinterpreted the shapes of the puffa chair by integrating natural Carpathian wool, an eco-friendly material sourced from free-range sheep used by GUSHKA wool manufacturer, into the design. This combination of modern minimalism and traditional weaving techniques, such as the stranded and brushed methods, offers a contemporary yet culturally rooted aesthetic. The stranded technique layers wool strands to create a voluminous texture, while the brushed technique uses hand-brushing to achieve a smooth, refined finish. These methods, traditionally used in creating shepherds’ clothing, offer protection against moisture and wind while allowing airflow, adding functional value to the pieces. Each model, puffa m4 stranded and puffa m4 brushed, is available in six natural wool shades, providing customization options.

‘In these pieces, we see not only an interesting visual transformation of form through materials and techniques but also how modern Ukrainian design is acquiring a sense of national identity and ethnic character that we proudly want to present to the world,’ says Max Voytenko, creative director of kint. Limited to 100 units per technique, each chair is accompanied by a serial number and certificate, confirming its authenticity.
