ultra-satisfying peelable paint, belay receives the 2017 japan good design award

recipient of the 2017 japan good design award, belay peelable paint was unveiled in japan, tokyo, earlier this week, quickly becoming the most satisfying product in existence. the application is being marketed as ‘a coat of beauty’ and is essentially a coat of peelable paint developed to protect surfaces from scratches and stains — in japan, where hospitality is globally appreciated, belay is thought to respond to the need of always ‘providing a constantly comfortable space.’

the scentless, transparent and strippable paint contains unique characteristics that differ from commonly used protective sheets and can be used on a wide range of parts such as wood, resin, tile and stone. belay is available in a glossy or non-glossy type, allowing users to select the type that best suits the material they wish to apply it to.

belay shared its market launch at the IFFT/interior lifestyle living fair, a sister event to the ambiente fair in frankfurt. it had previously been exhibited during ‘from the studio’, the first japanese solo exhibition of french artist, pierre charpin, who served as the color director for the brand’s 10 color collection. as well as occupying the windows of the gallery space the vibrant array of colours were used within the artist’s work.

belay can be used on various surfaces, from large and flat to small and uneven, covering straight lines and curves and all in between areas of furnishings. the product has been developed by the washing chemical industry co., the leading manufacturer of water-based paint for wooden materials.

the GOOD DESIGN award was founded in 1957 by the japanese ministry of international trade and industry and is hosted by the japan institute for design promotion. the ‘g mark’ emblem reflects comprehensive design values and principles that aim to enrich lives, industries and society.
