exploring intersections between industrial design and nature

Hsiang Han Hsu explores logics and connections between form and nature in industrial manufacturing, uncovering possibilities for creative expressions within their intersections. The new series titled ‘VORTEX’ draws inspiration from the fluid mechanics and manufacturing processes of ship propellers and captures these organic forms in bold yet understated renderings. The resulting volumes, made by lost wax casting in both stainless steel and bronze, reveal simultaneously robust and gently swirling sculptures.

Hsiang Han Hsu explores fluid mechanics in ship manufacturing

Fusing elements of nature with technology ‘VORTEX’ embraces the beauty of industrial design with sturdy steel and bronze volumes completed with glossy, reflective finishes. The pieces encapsulate the beauty of fluidity and flowing forms, and the elemental qualities of metal materiality which ‘catch the track of the time’ and create unique textures and vitality.

The collection was conceived by Hsiang Han Hsu, founder of Hsiang Han Design, a multi-disciplinary design studio based in Taipei and Milan, for UN- — a Taiwan-based collective featuring limited edition art pieces and collectible design objects.
