LOUIS VUITTON PRESENTS FINAL VIRGIL ABLOH COLLECTION IN PARIS

at paris fashion week, louis vuitton presented the last men’s collection designed by its late artistic director, virgil abloh, who passed away last november at the age of 41. abloh designed the fall-winter 2022 collection and conceived its presentation format, which was carried out by the creative teams and collaborators he continually worked with at the parisian luxury house. the show unfolded within a wondrous sky blue ‘louis dreamhouse™’, complete with a surreal arrangement of spatial elements such as a long banquet table where the orchestra was seating, a half-sunken house, a bedroom and a set of stairs.

marking the eighth and final chapter in his arc at louis vuitton, virgil abloh‘s fall-winter 2022 collection highlights the core ideologies of his practice. abloh’s boyhood ideology® – seeing the world with the unspoiled eyes of a child – informs a collection that tears up and transmutes the dress codes popularly tied to societal archetypes –tailoring, sportswear, dresses – and patchworks them in new ways. the show opened with a cinematic prelude directed by caleb femi, which imagines a metaphysical space of possibility: a mind-expanding interior of ideas, prospects and encouragement that opens a door to the runway. within the wondrous architecture of the louis dreamhouse™, models showcased abloh’s latest designs for the french fashion house while a group of acrobats bounced up, down and around the different elements of the scenography.

the soundtrack for the fall-winter 2022 show was created based on conversations with virgil abloh, which resulted in a live musical composition founded in childlike imagination and the magic of theater. the score was composed by tyler, the creator with arrangements by arthur verocaiis, and performed by the chineke! orchestra, conducted by gustavo dudamel, with creative direction by benji B.

meanwhle, the luxury fashion house has also announced that it is collaborating with sotheby’s to auction 200 special edition pairs of louis vuitton and nike ‘air force 1’ by virgil abloh sneakers with louis vuitton pilot cases. proceeds will benefit the virgil abloh™ “post-modern” scholarship fund, which in partnership with the fashion scholarship fund, supports the education of academically promising students of black, african american, or african descent. prior to his passing on 28 november 2021, the louis vuitton men’s artistic director was involved in the early organization of the auction and its surrounding events. the auction will take place in association with his family from january 26 to february 8, with a starting bid of $2,000.
