hangzhou and taiwan-based usual studio specialized in design combines natural subtle lines of falling rain with cold stainless steel. collection of furniture, titled ‘freezing rain’, comprises a chaise lounge, a small table, and a screen.
usual studio thought of heavy rain and came up with a couple of keywords: translucent, fuzzy, linear, flowing and changeable. stainless steel is cold, it reflects the surrounding environment, and is flexible and easy to model. these features make the material a great fit to materialize the idea of depicting rain.
the pieces of freezing rain can be used alone or combined to create a small resting space. the mirror reflection of the stainless steel allows the furniture to integrate and respond to all kinds of environment. this set can be used as outdoor furniture in the courtyard, or as interior furniture, with a detachable cushion to make the chair more comfortable.
