From concept to reality

In early 2014. Daryl Neal and Anthony Clyde, who had already spent ten years in the electric bike industry, tinkered with the concept of a two-wheel drive, electric, lightweight, utility vehicle. Their idea materialized in founding UBCO, a New Zealand company that produces rugged, all-wheel-drive electric utility bikes.

The team has rapidly evolved into a digitally connected EV platform, leveraging the benefits of modern electric drive and battery technology through their on and off-road transport, accessories, and subscription software. ‘Whether you are taking inspirational journeys, exploring our planet, saving our parks, or getting jobs done, UBCO wants to power your purpose, the brand states. It has unveiled two bikes tailored to the riders’ needs: 2X2ADV and 2X2WRK.

2X2ADV and 2X2WRK

The all-terrain 2X2 Adventure Bike prides itself as more than prepared to traverse the distance on city streets, muddy fields, or gravel trails with its robust alloy 3D frame, stainless steel spokes, durable componentry, and a high-torque motor in each wheel.

It almost reflects the same features of 2X2 Work Bike built purely for off-road riding which makes the solid mud-ready workhorse perfect for farm work and off-road adventures. The Work Bike enjoys a robust alloy 3D frame, weatherproof construction, stainless steel spokes, durable componentry, and a high-torque motor in each wheel.

Both bikes promise an easy ride and maneuvering through their lightweight element with no clutch, a low center of gravity, and a step-through frame. The electronic throttle invites the riders to just twist the throttle and go. They weigh 155lbs, become fully charged within four to six hours, has a max range of 75mi, and go for a 30mph top speed.

No fuel or exhaust. No chains or heat. The electric drive 2X2 eliminates many of the safety concerns of internal combustion motorcycles by design. Inherently safe and packed with security features, whether in the town or country, your 2X2 is safe and secure, the brand states. The brand guarantees silent motors in their electric bikes which reduces noise pollution and emissions, saves the riders’ money on fuel and maintenance, and shrinks their environmental footprint.

KXH Power

The brand has also devised the KXH Power Supply, a fully water and dust-resistant lithium-ion battery that powers the 2X2 series. With an IP66 rating, it can deliver a power supply of up to 3100Wh. The Battery Management System (BMS) integrated into the system protects the battery from operating outside its safe operating area with features including IP66 environmental rating as well as numerous venting, fusing, pressure, and flame protection measures.

The UBCO team developed KXH from the ground up, from the physical engineering structure to the hardware, firmware, and software. ‘We have increased battery cyclic longevity by at least 30% and improved the design for disassembly, creating a more durable product with a longer life and easier end-of-life management, they share.
