TWA flight center — the eero saarinen-designed architectural treasure at JFK airport — recently played host to a fleet of fashion models. louis vuitton staged its 2020 cruise collection show inside the hotly-anticipated hotel, a line of which which ‘summarizes the exaltation of departure and the comings and goings during which one leaves behind a little bit of oneself and brings much back home’. models donned dresses bearing sophisticated prints transposed from reliefs of legendary buildings; embroideries and dazzling brocades that reflect the idea of an elegant out-of-towner, and acid colors that recall the brilliant light that rises from new york city’s streetscapes.

for the show’s décor, natural vegetation surrounds the windows and walls, transporting guests to a jet age-style jungle in the middle of the city. ‘I was lucky enough to have landed at the TWA flight center in the late nineties,’ remembers nicolas ghesquière, creative director of the house of louis vuitton. ‘it was something I could never forget. this place was forgotten for twenty years, and now has come back to life. it’s like a sanctuary that’s been revived and seeing it enchant anew in a different iteration, as a hotel, is a great pleasure. it’s about rediscovering of an uncommon place that yet is a part of american heritage.’
