thonet 107 chair by robert stadler
initially commissioned for the cross restaurants in paris, the ‘107 chair’, designed by austrian designer robert stadler for thonet takes influence from the company’s famous ‘214 coffee house chair’. reinterpreted as a contemporary version taking cues from its classic form, the new conception adds variation to the archetypal design with a slim, curved backrest and lightweight, elegant look. with bentwood chairs being rather expensive to produce, the ‘107 chair’ references its predecessor to become significantly cheaper to manufacture using modern production technologies.
