christien meindertsma, with ten other dutch designers and artists, will exhibit at the zuiderzee museum. the exhibition is based on dutch traditional crafts such as rope-making, bronze-casting and basket-weaving. meindertsma designed a series of objects for T.E. editions – with support from the zuiderzee museum – whereby the craft of rope-making plays a central role. having carried out research, she went back to the origin of 16th-century dutch rope: flax, from the province of zeeland. the fibres were spun into yarns and then woven, twisted and twined together and knotted by rope-maker steenbergen in gorssel. meindertsma has thoroughly taken up this old craft.
