Studio TOOJ showcases at Alcova during Milan Design Week 2024
Studio TOOJ presents its collection at Alcova during Milan Design Week 2024, featuring a range of furniture pieces that challenge traditional Scandinavian design aesthetics. The Swedish design studio, co-founded by Johan Wilén and Ashley Chong, showcased its work against the backdrop of the iconic Villa Borsani, creating a striking contrast between the contemporary designs and the modernist architecture envisioned by architect and Tecno furniture brand co-founder Osvaldo Borsani.
The highlight of the exhibit was the Contourage blue console table, designed by Wilén. Contrary to its wood-like appearance, the table was 3D printed in one piece using sand, demonstrating innovative use of 3D printing technology and quartz sand in collaboration with German creative manufacturer Sandhelden.

furniture pieces feature organic forms and textured surfaces
Organic forms and textured surfaces shape the Contourage blue console table. The table is created through a binder jetting process that takes 24 hours, using renewable sources such as corn husks, rice hulls, and sugar cane for the furan-based binders. Skilled artisans meticulously finish the piece while preserving its distinctive sand texture.
In addition to the Contourage table, Studio TOOJ presented wood and stone collectible design collections that combined artistry and craftsmanship. These works highlighted the studio’s focus on merging sophistication with bold design elements, offering a fresh perspective on Scandinavian design.
