making the design of a 2D candle appear 3D, the ‘flatlight’ by studio cheha aims to help people rethink their everyday objects. stripped to its most basic form, the piece follows a classical outline of a traditional candle holder – only it is as flat as a piece of paper. created using a photochemical etching process, the work ensures that a high definition of detail is achieved, enhancing the optical illusion. despite the perspective achieved with the ‘flatlight’ it is only made from one section of 0.4mm thick brass: 15cm L x 6.4cm W and is available in a range of colors, as well as natural brass.
