the old courthouse and gateway arch from klener plaza in st. louis, missouri

there are considerations underway for a design competition to be held to revitalize the grounds of the gateway arch along the mississippi river in missouri, USA. the 630-foot arch was designed which was completed in 1965, was designed for a competition by architect eero saarinen. considered to be one of the finest monuments in the world, the goal is to improve services, facilities and access to and from the arch, while still maintaining the historic landmark’s surroundings and the landscape work done by saarinen and landscape architect dan kiley. the hopes are to revitalize the area so that it becomes a cultural center for the inhabitants of st. louis, as well as tourists visiting the city.
