designer sohyun yun presents the ‘TONE’ series, inspired by the traditional colors of korea at maison et objet fall 2019 edition. the project, comprising of a collection of side tables, makes special reference to the ‘hanbok’, which is a traditional korean dress worn on formal occasions. by applying a similar palette of hues, yun’s furniture intends to feel comfortable, soft, and beautiful, and overall evoke a particular korean aesthetic.

to form the pieces, sohyun yun used a book of traditional korean colors and selected 20 hues from 315. the designer then dyed the acrylic material by hand to create a series of beautifully complementary color schemes. the resulting furniture can be used as side tables, or even positioned on its side to become a small bookshelf.

by combining tradition with a contemporary aesthetic, TONE intends to bring a piece of artwork into everyday life. the tables can also be customized by the user as they can select the colors applied, providing different moods depending on the combination. in essence, the collection intends to reveal the unique beauty of korea in various interior spaces.
