seoul-based designer seungjin yang has created a collection of seating objects called ‘blowing series’ where he coated balloons with epoxy resin. the motivation behind the set was that yang wanted to transfer his childhood memories into the fabrication process of industrial furniture making. he first starts by blowing the balloons into the shapes and sizes needed and then fixes them into the desired chair form.
the collection is made of chairs, benches and stools
when he reaches the ideal and stable configuration, he pours epoxy resin all over it, repeating this process eight different times. this gives the balloons a durable and rigid structure which serves for seating. after this process, the balloons are transformed into fine and brightly colored glass with a glossy finishing.
