designers sebastiano tosi and lapo ciatti have created ‘firenze’ a series of rugs based on humankind’s always-present desire to transcend existence. the concept of the sublime is brought into a more immanent manifestation, allowing free movement on surfaces that were previously inaccessible. the romantic illusion of walking on a church’s dome, laying on an ancient ceiling, and losing oneself within the walls of an archaic sacristy evokes a sense of imaginary magnificence that takes users one step closer to the summit. ‘firenze’ was designed collaboratively by tosi and ciatti for opinion ciatti.
