named ‘saku’ the series of pastel furniture pieces have been created from the collaboration between toyko-based designer satoshi umeno (umenodesign) and loom japan. the design derives from the location where the two parties met; an appointment on an outdoor terrace. a fence displaying a distinctive woven pattern came to their attention and they were drawn by the shadows it created. with this, the saku pieces take on a similar technique and characteristics seen from the fence.

defined by the soft curves, delicate silhouette and woven detailing, the collection features dining and normal chairs, matching side tables and larger two person bench. handcrafted by japanese craftsmen, the entire surface of each piece is colored in a pastel tone; giving it a modern and younger aesthetic and deterring from the brown that is usually used in rattan furniture.

showcasing at maison et objet, read our previous feature where the satoshi umeno created a tile tableware collection and cutlery series which use japanese lacquer paint.
