debuting at salone del mobile 2017, sancal‘s ‘magnum’ soft seat family by estudiHac was the talk of the town, displaying the spanish brand’s enigmatic character lined with elements of elegance and eccentricity. the collaboration consists of a stool, lounge and dining chair united by a seat shape that slopes from a straight collar to a broad bottom. the furniture’s form, in tribute to its very british-esque grandeur, resembles the cognac brandy glasses of london’s most exclusive members-only clubs. just like how the glasses cradle the lavish liquid with its generous ball-like body, ‘magnum’ comforts users in an expansive, surrounding and ever so supportive embrace.

paying further homage to the luxury of the west-end, the sancal ‘magnum’ pieces are suited like smart gentlemen of the city, dressed in a fine collection of upholstery options that portray niche, sophisticated yet quirky personalities. these defined traits highlight the range’s high level of flexibility and adaptability. be it located within large and loud bars, gathered around a small family dining table, or settled amongst the deliberating lounges of a members-only club, the furniture is suited for both public or domestic spaces, no matter their size. furthermore, the stools, lounge and dining chairs can be additionally customized through a choice of four bases: gold colored plinths, lacquered metal central feet, upholstery bases or four legs.

presented at salone del mobile, the ‘magnum’ is the latest collaboration between industrial and interior design studio estudiHac and sancal, following the ‘tea’ family set started in 2010. led by jose manuel ferrero, the new furniture range reflects a level of sophistication that their design style is renowned for. in a game of ‘what if‘, it is clear to see how ferrero aligns the pieces with many different pinnacles of elegance in nature, culture and architecture, such as the grand adventures of the film ‘around the world in 80 days’, the timeless form of morgan cars, and the progressiveness, texture and volumes of herzog and de meuron‘s ‘elbphilharmonie‘ in hamburg, germany.
