ross lovegrove has designed ‘foliates’, a new series of rings presented for the louisa guinness gallery at design miami/. each of the six jewelry pieces in the collection have been conceived using digital modeling techniques and have been 3D printed in 18 carat gold. ‘the term foliates is derived from the botanical world of plants.’ says lovegrove. ‘it relates to leaves and leaf structures, their highly evolved shapes that are there to capture sunlight and rain. these rings and this collection appear is as if the very last virgin leaves of a tree or plant have unfurled from ones hand so that there is a relationship between the finger and the leaf, the gold appearing from the delicate void that I find so feminine and sensual and unattended.’ sitting lightly, the rings create a synergy between technology, materials, science and intelligent organic forms, exploring the dynamics in relation to space.
