‘remains – re-use of factory waste’ by israeli industrial designer shani langberg is furniture made from left over pieces of rubbish – the work is part of her final project at holon institute of technology. taken from the ‘dispobud’ factory, where disposable products such as non-woven fabric are manufactured – around three tons is thrown away each month and the unwanted scraps are transformed into a new item. after researching the material’s characteristics, shani langberg uses a heating process, melting the raw material (non-woven fabric PP) into a mold made of aluminum using CNC technology. this makes it durable enough to create furniture that combines both industrial processing techniques and craft.
