Siegelman Stable and Red Cross’ hat for ‘Drop for Drop’ program

Siegelman Stable teams up with the American Red Cross for the program ‘Drop for Drop’ to encourage the current generation to donate blood and help save lives. In return, each blood donor receives an unreleased American Red Cross hat from the fashion company. The hat isn’t for sale. It’s reserved for those who donate blood in the upcoming drive, which will take place on September 14th, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee, from 10am to 4pm. It’s at The Ruby, 2411 Blakemore Avenue across the street from Vanderbilt University. To date, the blood drives have collected more than 1,000 blood donations from first-time donors in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and New York City.

Authentication tag to access one of none’s platform

Those who sign up for the blood drive in Nashville, Tennessee, can get their hands on the unreleased Red Cross and Siegelman Stable hat in a classic red and black color scheme. The fashion company’s logo sits at the front of the accessory, while the humanitarian organization’s name appears on the side. Both have collaborated with One of None, a Connected Product Platform that converts physical goods into smart products. They’re the ones that link each hat to its own platform using the authentication tag that each recipient receives after donating blood.

Once the blood donors receive their hat, they follow the instructions provided. Here, they use the authentication tag to access their digital profile. In this space, they can receive additional information from Siegelman Stable about future drops and releases, as well as news and updates from the American Red Cross. The communications they receive are exclusive to them and others who own the hat. External individuals don’t have access to them. This approach also sets off the possibility of brands communicating with their audiences using fashion and technology.

nashville is red cross’ fourth city for its blood drives

Nashville marks the fourth city where the Red Cross has sought blood donations. This time, they aim to engage and motivate a generation of young blood donors. They do so by gifting them a Siegelman Stable hat. The Red Cross says that during COVID-19, there was a significant drop in blood donations, both from first-time donors and those who typically give at these drives. Blood drives sponsored by high schools, colleges, and universities—locations where many young people may give their first donations—were put on hold due to the COVID circumstances.

In terms of numbers, there were about 260,000 donors aged 18 to 24 who gave blood with the Red Cross in 2021. That’s less than half the number of donors from just two years earlier in 2019. ‘Young people have tremendous power to help save lives now and build a generation of blood donors for the future. While we experienced a small increase in this age group in 2022, there is still much room for growth to return to pre-COVID levels of young blood donors,’ says Darren Irby, executive director of brand and partnerships for the American Red Cross.

Amidst these all, the American Red Cross has accomplished a number of feats in the last three years. During this time, they’ve collected over 1,000 units of blood and created an 87 percent new donor rate. They’ve also filled 100 percent of their appointments and met their goal of encouraging youth to donate, with the majority of donors being between the ages of 19 and 27. The next blood drive is on September 14th, 2024, from 10 am to 4 pm in Nashville, Tennessee. For those who want to donate blood and help save lives, the next one is located at The Ruby, 2411 Blakemore Avenue, across the street from Vanderbilt University.

‘Building a sustainable blood supply is critical to meeting the needs of patients today, tomorrow, and beyond. One in seven people walking into a hospital will need a blood transfusion. It’s the blood on the shelf that saves lives. The blood is only there because someone took the time to roll up a sleeve and give. While fashion and blood donation may not seem to connect, the Red Cross is committed to reaching and motivating new audiences who may have never considered blood donation before,’ says Darren Irby.
