on the occasion of design september brussels 2011, brussels-based designart dealer victor hunt in collaboration with paris-based FAT galerie present ‘raw edges, from flat to full’, an exhibition which provides an in depth look at the design practice of london-based studio raw edges (yael mer and shay akalay) and their most recent works which include the coiling collection, tailored wood, tailored stool, pleated pleat, volume and the grove revolving trees.
exhibited at hunting and collecting, the work on show highlights the duo’s design philosophies and interests – yael is very much focused on working with two-dimensional sheet materials and turning them into 3D functional forms, while shay is fascinated in the way things move, function and react. together, their practice is very much embedded in the idea of process and transformation of shapes and materials.
