johnson trading gallery presents the first complete collection of furniture by new-york based architect rafael de cárdenas. referencing the work of bruce goff and frank lloyd right, the work in this series takes the cube as its underlying form, building outwards from this through the rotation, mirroring and multiplication of shapes. each of the objects are composed from a set of geometrical relationships – cubes fastened by triangular or semi-circular forms – that both act as decorative and structural elements.

this series comes in a variety of finishes including: plywood, neon gradients, veneered cypress… the collection speaks of de cárdenas signature aesthetic, expressing bold lines and colors contrasting one another and includes: two benches, a console table, a dresser, a pair of nightstands, a hexagonal dining table with six nesting chairs, a planter chair and two cabinets which increase in size and detail with somewhat anthropomorphic features – their diamond-shaped legs slim down to pointed feet that hold up a far larger torso of a similar shape.
