waking up early just to iron clothes seems time-consuming. the extra hour that can be spent in bed is sacrificed to set up the iron and ironing board in the wake of dawn. designer zhinan huang thought of a scenario like this when he designed his handheld garment heater, a portable and flexible solution to smoothen out wrinkly clothes at home or on holiday.

‘the three-layer steam heater can completely vaporize water and spray uniform steam when used at different angles,’ says designer huang, who also acted as the research and development director of the product. the steamer can be rotated 90 degrees to adapt to ironing the cloths on a surface. in this way, it veers from the traditional steamer where users just hang the clothes and let the clothes absorb the steam.

lightweight and compact

during the design phase, huang considered users who would love to iron clothes quickly while on their business or leisure travel. as a response, his handheld garment steamer fits a hand or backpack with its 80mm x 230mm x 42 mm size, turning it compact to fully utilize the space anywhere it is stashed. the lightweight steamer only weighs 350g, a worry-free device anyone can bring everywhere.

durability and a sleek look

the product’s design comprises four parts. the steam heater, which can be rotated as mentioned, is separated from the grip to prevent it from burning up. the tube attached to it plays the role of the water tank whose top lid pops on and off to easily fill it with water. huang also wanted a minimalist design for his product. ‘so, the steamer is only controlled by one button. it is simple and safe, and meets the needs of anyone who needs to iron clothes fast during business or leisure travel,’ he says. the last part pinpoints the silicone-covered wire that confers the product durability and a sleek look.
