As part of Moncler’s 70th birthday celebrations, the French-founded Italian luxury fashion brand invited Pierpaolo Piccioli, creative director of Valentino, to redesign the iconic Maya jacket. The Italian fashion designer reinterpreted the garment’s quilted geometry, tying each square with handmade knots, to create a couture version of the original piece. Modeled by supermodel Kristen McMenamy, the resulting puffer presents a luxurious yet sporty look. The collaboration will be available on Moncler’s website from November 19, 2022.

reinterpreting traditional puffers with origami-like cutouts

Pierpaolo Piccioli lends his signature to Moncler’s Maya design by reinterpreting traditional quilting and introducing origami-like cutouts. The newly unveiled garment plays with the concept of traditional puffers, presenting a coat with padded pockets that are knotted at the corners. The jacket features gaps between each padded square, creating an artfully crafted coat that could be described more as a fashion statement than a warm outerwear piece. A video on the fashion brand’s website offers a behind-the-scenes look at the collaboration, showing world-renowned photographer Platon capturing Kristen McMenamy modeling the unique creation.

Italian fashion designer Pierpaolo Piccioli is the sixth designer to reinvent Maya for Moncler’s 70th-anniversary celebration. So far, Palm Angels, Rick Owens, Thom Browne, Giambattista Valli, and Hiroshi Fujiwara’s FRGMT have participated in the collaboration series, while Pharrell Williams will star in the seventh and final collaboration, which will be unveiled on the 26th of November, 2022.
