The renowned Italian furniture company is celebrating a milestone – its 60th anniversary since its founding. The occasion is marked by the inauguration of the Pedrali Pavilion, designed by AMDL CIRCLE and Michele de Lucchi. Situated in the Headquarters in Mornico al Serio, Bergamo, the wooden structure serves as a symbol of Pedrali’s approach towards tradition, quality, and forward-thinking craftsmanship. Alongside the architecture, an exhibition titled ‘Pedrali60, we design a better future,’ curated by Luca Molinari Studio, chronicles six decades of the company’s history and products adorning spaces worldwide, from Michelin-starred restaurants to luxurious hotels and renowned school campuses

Since its inception in 1963 by founder Mario Pedrali, the company has been guided by a passion for craftsmanship and a commitment to producing top-tier furniture. Two generations, united by a shared vision, have pursued the goal of creating furniture that enhance both homes and workplaces. While looking toward the future, the firm celebrates its 60-year anniversary milestone with the Pedrali pavilion designed specially for the occasion by AMDL CIRCLE and Michele de Lucchi.   Additionally in the wooden structure, the ‘Pedrali60, we design a better future’ exhibition, curated by Luca Molinari Studio, further reflects the Italian company’s ethos and dedication to traditional craftsmanship, sustainability, and adaptability.

‘Starting from our roots and following the teachings of our father Mario, we continue to build the history of Pedrali, drawing on the collaborative spirit of all our employees, who have always believed in the company and are committed to achieving common goals, day after day. We wish to thank AMDL CIRCLE, Michele De Lucchi and Luca Molinari Studio for having helped us to make this journey even more special,’ continue the company’s CEOs, Monica and Giuseppe Pedrali.

The Pavilion’s structure is characterized by a large, vaulted roof supported by sturdy wooden legs, highlighting its nomadic nature. Natural light spreads in the interior through open sides, creating an inviting ambiance as the entrance staircase serves as both an access point to the exhibition and a platform for presentations and discussions.

‘The Pavilion is like a large roof that stands on its own two legs, approachable via a staircase that is also a grandstand where people, visitors, spectators can stay together. In this mobile and movable exhibition space, shows and events can be staged, which tell the story of the existence of a company, a community of people building together something that deserves to be built, distributed, sold, told, combining together the destinies of many individuals,’ says the architect Michele De Lucchi, founder of AMDL CIRCLE.

‘Pedrali60, we design a better future’

Inside, the ‘Pedrali60, we design a better future’ exhibition unfolds, tracing the company’s evolution through iconic designs, prototypes, graphic art, and catalogues. The showroom further includes physical objects and multimedia presentations in order to engage visitors in the company’s long journey. The exhibition traces a company history that began back in 1963, when Mario Pedrali opened a new business in Palazzolo sull’Oglio, in the province of Brescia, drawing on an artisan culture gained in the field of metal processing. Driven by a passion for his work and a desire to fulfil his dreams, he first applied his know-how in a workshop specializing in the production of wrought iron garden furniture.

A second staircase leads to the portico on the ground floor, where the exhibition continues. This space is inspired by the loggias of ancient public buildings, once at the center of civil life in northern Italian towns. The space also reflects Pedrali’s need to find a shared dimension in which to build its future. Besides prompting connection and community, the Pavilion serves as a reminder of Pedrali’s dedication to sustainability. The entire structure is in PEFC-certified wood, a material that embraces both the artisan tradition and eco-friendly production process that lies in the company’s core values. Pedrali also measures its Corporate Carbon Footprint, continuously seeking to reduce its environmental impact. Investments in renewable energy, energy-efficient processes, and LED lighting further demonstrate the project’s environmental approach.

The 2000s ignited a new era for Pedrali, marked by collaborations with Italian and international designers that gave life to collections, including the Snow and Frida chairs by Odo Fioravanti, the Ypsilon table by Jorge Pensi Design Studio, and designs by CMP Design and Patrick Jouin, enabling the company to win prestigious prizes and awards such as the XXII Compasso d’Oro ADI for Frida in 2011. Recognition extended beyond products; in 2017, Mario Pedrali received the ‘Olivetti Entrepreneur Prize’ for creating a great furniture factory inspired by an Olivetti-style concept of design.

The exhibition also walks the visitor through the company’s technological advancements, from CNC machines and robotic welding systems in the 1980s to cutting-edge automation techniques. Alongside such evolutions, sustainability has always followed. In 2020, the company introduced ‘recycled grey’ products crafted from a blend of recycled polypropylene (50% post-consumer waste and 50% industrial waste), often paired with FSC® C114358 certified wood and water-based coatings composed mainly of plant-derived resins.
