pechakucha celebrates global night with over 100 cities worldwide

pechakucha, the presentation phenomenon that has conducted events in over 680 cities from around the world, will celebrate global night, which will link individual events in more than 100 of those cities via live online chat. ‘pechakucha nights began in tokyo 10 years ago as a forum for architects and designers to share their work,’ said mark dytham, who founded the event with architect astrid klein. ‘since then, it has grown virally and spread from city to city. global night is our fourth annual celebration of that growth, where we come together as one international community. in an increasingly virtual world, these events bring back the magic of meeting people face to face.’ ‘over 100 cities have signed up to participate in global night,‘ dytham noted.

‘our global wave will run for about 20 hours, and will essentially be a ‘telethon’ linking up with all the cities taking part. in our google hangout room online, there will be hosts from pechakucha headquarters in tokyo who will lead conversations with our local organizers as they drop into the room at an appointed time. we’ll also be live streaming via google hangouts on air so that anyone can drop in and see what’s happening at any given time during the event.’

the theme of global night is ‘hidden heroes,’ giving pechakucha nights and their presenters the opportunity to showcase people who are making a difference in individual communities around the world. after the event, recorded presentations will be shared on a channel on the event’s official website, pechakucha.org. ‘in effect,’ said dytham, ‘this will bring creative people from all over the world together, celebrating other people in one huge global wave. we think it will be a night to remember.’
