‘magnum’ by patrycja domanska and felix gieselmann is a functional and sculptural lamp that attempts to revolutionize the concept of a domestic luminaire. the matte black, minimalist object consists of a coated aluminum rod and a luminous body in the form of a circular disc. this simple composition enables a wide range of applications. depending on the direction the device is applied, the light can be projected onto a ceiling above or dispersed throughout a room.

with the addition of a magnetic plug, which conducts and connects the rod to the light-emitting element, users have the ability to manipulate the object into multiple configurations. the concept of the plug originates from the automotive industry and was adapted for the design. therefore, it is possible to position the screen as required by securely holding the lamp by the handle and adjusting components in relation to one another.  as a result, interactions with the light have been changed so that it fits the movements of surrounding environment. ‘magnum’ is conceived as a satellite – independently circling to constantly accompany its owner as a fixed point and yet to remain an independent object.
