patrick nagel and nils körner from the stuttgart state academy of art and design have created sunglasses, a shirt and suitcase based on the study of motion. this fashion line highlights the changing shape of everyday objects when being triggered by movement. for example whether it is a catwalk, fashion retail design or photography, everything is presented and displayed dynamically. ‘but why spend so much time and effort to stage motion afterwards rather than include aspects of it in the design process’, questions the duo.

to understand how people interact with products and move around them, nagel and körner have completed a photo series under time exposure. by doing so, motion blur is highly apparent and varies with different objects. the sunglasses collection includes three different designs based on different exposures: 1 second, 3 seconds and 30 seconds. the shirt includes very little detail, such as the overlay along the edge, an extended neckline and big sleeves — since arms are the parts that move most. finally, the suitcase is designed with a stretched shaped that evokes the effect of swinging one’s bag when walking. as part of their program at the stuttgart state academy of art and design, every proposed object is based on archetypes. but in the end, it is motion that is designing and transforming them into an avant-garde design.
