color company pantone unveiled its latest color of the year for 2020, choosing classic blue, or pantone 19-4052 for its ‘reassuring qualities’. describing the color as a ‘universal favorite’, pantone says it highlights ‘our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.’

announced 4 december, the annual color is chosen based on ‘what is taking place in our global culture at a moment in time’. it follows this year’s color ‘living coral’, a vibrant shade ‘symbolizing our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits’ whilst being a representative color of the current climate crisis, according to the company.

 

‘a boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky, pantone 19-4052 classic blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication,’ said leatrice eiseman, executive director of pantone color institute.

‘we are living in a time that requires trust and faith,’ she added. ‘it is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by pantone 19-4052 classic blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on.’
